Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on February 9 at a press conference in the Diet building offered his condolences to those who were killed in a massive earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria three days ago, calling for people’s support in the JCP effort to collect donations.

Shii recalled his visit to Istanbul in November 2022 for the 11th general assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP). He said, “My heart aches to hear the news about the devastating death and destruction caused by the quake. I hope as many people as possible can be rescued.”

Expressing his heartfelt sympathy to the victims of the disaster, Shii said that the JCP already launched an effort to raise donations. He said that the party will send the collected donations to the disaster victims through proper channels, and called for public support for the JCP’s fundraising effort.
