Ogata in Uruguay

January 6 & 8, 2011
Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on January 4 held talks with Alicia Pintos, a senator in the Uruguay Parliament and a member of the ruling Communist Party of Uruguay (CPU), at the Parliament building in Montevideo.

Ogata outlined the political situation and the movement for a united front in Japan as well as JCP activities and the situation in Asia. The senator briefed Ogata on CPU activities and achievements.

Prior to the talks, Ogata met with Minister of Social Development Ana Maria Vignoli (CPU) at the minister’s office.

Ogata talked about various problems Japan is facing such as an increase in the poverty rate and cutbacks in the social welfare system and how the JCP acts in the interest of the common people.

Ms. Vignoli told Ogata about the accomplishments achieved by the Ministry of Social Development in the fields of education, medical care, and social welfare by cooperating with other ministries and agencies.

Ogata then visited Juan Canessa (Broad Front), an assistant to the mayor of Montevideo City, to talk about issues faced by municipalities in Japan and in Uruguay. Ogata stressed the importance of the JCP presence in each municipality in Japan.
