The Japanese Communist Party foreign policy of creating true peace through dialogue in compliance with international law is becoming the mainstream current of the present world. This came into relief in the recent progress in international politics.

JCP Chair Shii Kazuo, during the party’s 9th Central Committee Plenum on October 5 held at the JCP head office, said so while mentioning two international conferences.

At the G20 New Delhi Summit on September 9 and September 10, G20 leaders in their declaration said, “In line with the UN Charter, all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state.” They reaffirmed the resolution adopted by more than 140 countries at the UN General Assembly and “underscored that all states must act in a manner consistent with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter in its entirety.”

The JCP has called on the international community to band together to settle the Russia-Ukraine issue based on a common understanding that they should abide by the UN Charter. The JCP has criticized the argument which divides the problem into “democracy versus autocracy” for hindering the move for global solidarity.

Shii in the Plenum paid attention to the Global South. He said that the present world no longer goes in the way as pleased by only a handful of nations, and that the Global South is becoming influential in international politics. He said, “Newly-industrialized nations such as India, Brazil, and South Africa took the initiative to issue the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, and it’s noteworthy that the United States and Russia accepted this declaration.” In contrast, regarding the Japanese government, Shii pointed out that Japan cannot respond to a dynamically-changing world as long as it views the Japan-U.S. alliance as holy writ.

Between September 5 and September 7, the ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit (EAS) took place in Indonesia. ASEAN countries adopted a joint communique with the U.S., China. and South Korea on cooperation for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). EAS leaders in their statement declare that they “[s]upport ASEAN’s continuous efforts on the mainstreaming and implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).”

The JCP, in support of the AOIP, has promoted its diplomatic vision in order to build true peace in East Asia.

Shii said, “Our foreign policy is consistent with the world trend,” and added that he will appeal to the general public about this point.
