JCP lawmakers meet with French leftist lawmaker

November 2, 2023

Japanese Communist Party members of the House of Councilors Yamazoe Taku and Kira Yoshiko, together with JCP Tokyo Metropolitan Assemblymemeber Yonekura Haruna, on October 30 in Tokyo met with France Unbowed (La France Insoumise) party lawmaker Ersilia Soudais, who is visiting Japan as vice president of the French National Assembly's France-Japan Friendship Group.

Topics discussed in their talks included sex crimes against women and minors in Japan represented by molestation on trains and sex abuse in the entertainment industry, discrimination and prejudice against women, and the struggle for gender equality.

The JCP and France Unbowed lawmakers exchanged their experiences regarding harassment against young female politicians in Japan and France. They agreed on the significance of solidarity among people fighting in many countries to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.

They also exchanged views on a recent global movement calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict, the issue of the labor shortage and the excessive work that Japanese and French teachers are experiencing, and the issue of excessive long working hours and overwork-related death of teachers in Japan.
