Shii at New Year assembly reports on his visit to Southeast Asia

January 5, 2024
The Japanese Communist Party on January 4 held a New Year assembly at the JCP head office. Chair Shii Kazuo in his New Year greetings reported on his visit late last year to Indonesia, Laos, and Vietnam.

Shii said that he held talks with many people and explained to them about the JCP “diplomatic vision” that the party proposed in 2022 to create true peace in East Asia through peace diplomacy based on the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution, and that everyone who works to promote regional collaboration for peace welcomed the JCP vision.

Shii added that meeting with them, he realized that the vision should be upgraded through an active commitment in helping settle pending issues that East Asia is facing and in contributing more to making a success of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).

Touching on the JCP “Economic Revival Plan” issued in September 2023, Shii said that the Plan points to the Liberal Democratic Party-ruled government for being to blame for the “Lost 30 Years”, and that the Plan presents policies to bring the present tax and fiscal measures back to where they should be.

Shii moved on to the issue of slush-fund allegations involving LDP factions. He said that Akahata is currently gaining much media attention because the off-the-book funds surfaced as a result of the Akahata Sunday edition’s scoop. He called on party members to work to make the value of Akahata widely known to the general public.

He concluded his New Year greetings by calling for the success of the upcoming 29th JCP Congress slated for January 15 in addition to a JCP advance in the forthcoming general election.
