All JCP assembly members in Fukushima City reelected

August 1, 2011
All four incumbents of the Japanese Communist Party were elected on July 31 in the Fukushima City Assembly election, which had been postponed since April due to the 3.11 disaster.

Calling for swift decommissioning of all reactors in Fukushima, the JCP candidates during the election campaign stressed that their party for 45 years continued to reveal the risks associated with nuclear power generation. They demanded that radiation decontamination be immediately carried out throughout the city.

Their campaign pledge also included a reduction in national health premiums by 10,000 yen per household.

In the two other disaster-hit prefectures of Iwate and Miyagi, local assembly elections were held in two cities on the same day. The JCP secured all three seats in the assemblies: two in Ninohe City (Iwate) and one in Shiroishi City (Miyagi).
