Shii talks with Malaysian ambassador to Japan

April 29, 2010
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on April 28 held talks with Malaysian Ambassador to Japan Dato Shaharuddin bin Md Som at the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo and they discussed the coming Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to abolish nuclear weapons.

Shii said that he will visit the United States as the head of the JCP delegation to the NPT Review Conference urge nuclear weapons states to carry out their promise made at the 2000 Review Conference to abolish their nuclear arsenals, and to urge the conference members to agree to start negotiations to abolish nuclear weapons.

Ambassador Shaharuddin stated that his government is in support of the elimination of nuclear weapons, referring to its calls for many years to start negotiating for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons and its proposal for a United Nations resolution to this effect, which gained overwhelming support.

They also discussed Malaysia’s role in the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and in the Association of South-East Asian Nations.
