Ogata meets with Egyptian ambassador

May 16, 2009
Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on May 15 met with Egyptian Ambassador to Japan Walid Mahmoud Abdelnasser at the Egyptian Embassy in Tokyo, and explained the JCP Chair Shii’s call on U.S. President Barack Obama to take the initiative to eliminate nuclear weapons.

Handing the ambassador Shii’s letter to Obama, Ogata requested that he convey Shii’s message to the Egyptian government.

Pointing out that Shii’s letter to Obama was timely as well as important, Abdelnasser said that the Egyptian government, which has been sending its representatives to the World Conference against A & H Bombs every year, will welcomes Shii’s letter.

Ogata noted that the Egyptian delegate to the current preparatory committee meeting for the NPT Review Conference firmly stated that eliminating nuclear weapons only guarantees outlawing the use of nuclear weapons, and called for early realization of international negotiations and an agreement on the prevention of use and abolition of nuclear weapons.

Ogata stated his hope that relations between the JCP and the Egyptian government and their cooperation in the World Conference against A & H Bombs will further increase.
