2012 March 21 - 27 [NUCLEAR CRISIS]

Smaller business owners call for economy without nuclear energy

March 21, 2012
Small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners on March 20 formed a network in Tokyo aimed at creating sustainable communities with renewable energy sources instead of depending on nuclear power generation.

This move is in sharp contrast to the Japan Business Federation and large corporations calling for the immediate reactivation of off-line nuclear reactors.

The inaugural meeting of the Network of Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs for a Sustainable Business and Energy Future was taken part in by 120 SME leaders from throughout Japan.

Suzuki Teisuke of Suzuhiro Kamaboko Co. in Kanagawa Prefecture, who worked hard for the establishment of the network, was chosen as the leader of the 387 member network.

Suzuki said in his speech, “As business leaders, let us not only propose but practice ways to establish a healthy nation and communities without nuclear power plants.”
