Let’s make advance in Upper House election: JCP 6th CC Plenum

February 10&11, 2013
The Japanese Communist Party on February 10 and 11 held its 6th Central Committee Plenum at its head office in Tokyo and decided on its action policies for this summer’s Upper House election.

On the first day, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo gave a report on behalf of the Executive Committee, which was broadcast live on the Internet. In the report, Shii clarified that the Liberal Democratic Party-style politics have been on the brink of collapse, and called for looking at the current situation in the light of the JCP Platform and struggling to open up a new political path. The chair also pointed out some important lessons to be learned from the recent general election, and called on party members to further associate themselves with the general public with the aim of winning the Upper House election to be held in five months.

A total of 51 members spoke during the two-day session. On the second day, Shii gave his concluding statement and it was unanimously adopted along with his report.

Following the adoption, the plenum elected Executive Committee member Yamashita Yoshiki as acting secretariat head, and Policy Commission Chair Koike Akira as party’s vice-chair.

After the meeting, asked by reporters about the personnel changes, Shii said, “It is needed to strengthen the party leadership and bring in young executives to take leading positions. They are both only 52 years old. I want them to become pillars of the party facing the future.”
