US soldier and US civilian employee arrested in a row

May 12, 2013
Okinawa Police arrested a U.S. soldier and a U.S. military-attached civilian in a row on May 10.

Simon McRaney, a soldier attached to the U.S. Army Garrison Japan Torii Station was the soldier who was arrested. According to the police, they spotted a car making a U-turn to avoid a DUI checkpoint in Yomitan Village at around 1 a.m. The police chased and stopped the vehicle to conduct a sobriety test. As the driver, Simon, refused to take the test, the police arrested him for violation of the Road Traffic Law.

Three hours later, Mario Damian, a civilian employee of the U.S. Kadena base, was arrested for trespassing in Kin Town. He allegedly ran away without paying his taxi fare and hid in a shed on the property of a private residence. The suspect was found by a police officer who came to the scene after receiving a call from the taxi driver. Damian was allegedly drunk.
