Drunken US sailor arrested for breaking and entering into school

May 14, 2013
Police on May 12 arrested a drunken U.S. serviceman for trespassing into an elementary school that he entered after smashing a window in the school located in Zushi City in Kanagawa Prefecture.

The police said they rushed to the school after the alarm rang at around 7:30 p.m., and discovered 23-year-old Petty Officer 2nd Class Kristopher Murphy of the U.S. Navy’s Yokosuka base sleeping inside a second-floor classroom in the school building.

The next day, a local organization, called Kanagawa-Kakushinkon which aims for a peaceful, democratic, progressive Japan, sent a letter of protest to Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and U.S. President Barack Obama.

The letter argues that crimes committed by U.S. servicemen will never vanish unless U.S. military leave Japan, and demands that all the base sites be immediately returned.
