All JCP Dietmembers express to each other their determination to fight

December 19, 2014
All 31 Japanese Communist Party Dietmembers of both Houses (except for one not present) on December 18 got together at a meeting of the JCP Dietmembers’ Group held in the Diet building, expressing to each other their determination to fulfill their campaign pledges to the public in the next ordinary session of the Diet.

Amidst camera flashes and TV cameras, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo who succeeded in securing his reelection said, “Now that the JCP made a major advance in the election, we all have to take on more responsibility to represent the interests of the general public.”

Shii called on the 32-member group, up 13 from its pre-election strength of 19, to actively engage in Diet debates and put forth counterproposals on every issue discussed in order to meet people’s expectations.

Elected from an Okinawa single-seat constituency thanks to the progressive-conservative alliance, Akamine Seiken said, “I will stand fast for Okinawa.”

Other JCP members of the House of Representatives also outlined their goals in the next Diet session, stating, for example: I have kept taking part in citizens’ protest actions in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and I, as their representative, will face off against the Abe government; I will take a lead in struggles to protect regional agriculture from the proposed free trade pact; I will work hard to help open the way for a “zero” nuclear power Japan; I will confront the Abe regime continuing to turn its back on Hibakusha’s demands.
