US military aircraft yet again drops a window while airborne

July 28, 2018

A U.S. Navy helicopter accidently dropped a window shortly after taking off on July 27 at the U.S. Atsugi naval base in Kanagawa Prefecture. No damage was reported, according to the Defense Ministry.

U.S. military helicopters have repeatedly had window-drop accidents in Japan, including a window from a U.S. Army UH-60 helicopter of the U.S. Camp Zama (Kanagawa Pref.) that fell onto a private forest near Mt. Fuji on February 9, 2016 and a U.S. Marines CH-53E of the U.S. Futenma air base (Okinawa Pref.) which dropped an 8kg-metal window onto the schoolyard of a public elementary school where about 60 pupils were having PE classes on December 13, 2017.
