US flares fall on private land in Okinawa just 50m from house

December 7, 2019
Several U.S. military illumination rockets were discovered on December 5 on Kin Town's private land near U.S. Camp Hansen in Okinawa.

According to the Kin Town office, one was found in a rice field just a few hundred meters from U.S. Camp Hansen. The site was only 50 meters from a private residence. One was found hanging from a tree located a few meters of the rice field. Another one was found on a road. The U.S. forces reportedly admitted to the use of these flares.

The Okinawa prefectural government immediately requested that the Okinawa Defense Bureau investigate into the cause of the incident and explain in detail what the U.S. military is planning to conduct during its drills (Dec.2- Dec.8) at Camp Hansen.

Okinawa Governor Tamaki Denny published a statement in which he said, "It is deplorable as it could have been a serious accident damaging prefectural people's lives and properties."
