Shii: UNSC resolution on 'coronavirus ceasefire' is a major step in the right direction

July 3, 2020
The UN Security Council on July 1 adopted a unanimous resolution calling for a worldwide ceasefire for at least 90 days to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on July 2 held a press conference in the Diet building and said, "The resolution is an extraordinarily important one."

He said, "What the UN Secretary General had long called for became a common call in the UNSC, which means that the international community will move forward to bringing the situation under control with global cooperation and solidarity. This move is the same as that advocated by the JCP, and we will continue to support moves in this direction."
