JCP urges Tokyo governor to withdraw from project to mobilize schoolchildren to attend Summer Games

June 22, 2021

The Japanese Communist Party Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly members’ group and the JCP Tokyo Committee on June 21 submitted to Governor Koike Yuriko a written request demanding that the planned mobilization of about 900,000 schoolchildren to see the Summer Games be cancelled.

The JCP in its document urged the Tokyo government to not only withdraw from the controversial project but also to inform local municipalities in Tokyo that they can cancel their participation in that project. In addition, the JCP document calls on the Tokyo government to give up on hosting the Games and instead focus on the fight against the pandemic.

The JCP submitted the written request also to the chief secretary of the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education.
