Shii on Twitter challenges CPC leader’s ‘oppose hegemony and power politics’ remark

July 3, 2021
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on July 2 on his Twitter account challenged Xi Jinping, President of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, about his “We will oppose hegemony and power politics” remark in his address commemorating the 100th anniversary of the CPC’s founding.

Shii tweeted, “How can we call China’s hegemonic acts in the East China Sea and South China Sea other than ‘hegemonism’? How can we call China’s human rights abuse in Hong Kong and Xinjiang Uighur other than ‘high-handed political tactics’?”

He went on to tweet that it is important for the international community to urge China to comply with international law.
