US soldier in Yokosuka arrested for beating a security guard in the head

October 26, 2021
Yokosuka Police in Kanagawa Prefecture on October 22 arrested a 30-year-old petty officer second class, who is assigned to the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base, on suspicion of assault.

According to the police, the U.S. soldier under the influence of alcohol beat a male security guard in his head in a security guard office located at a Yokosuka Port pier before dawn of the same day. The guard was severely injured.

The Yokosuka City government immediately visited the Yokosuka base command to strongly protest against the incident, demanding that the U.S. military take measures to prevent a recurrence, strengthen discipline, and strictly instruct its personnel regarding violent crimes.

Over the past six months, serious crimes and accidents involving U.S. Yokosuka base personnel have occurred four times, including this one.
