CDPJ apologizes to JCP for reported move to form a forum with 'Ishin' party

February 16, 2022
Japanese Communist Party Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji on February 15 stated that the JCP received an apology from the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan for a reported setup of a forum for talks among opposition parties, excluding the JCP and including the right-leaning "Nippon Ishin no Kai" party.

It was reported that the CDPJ is preparing to form a collaborative relationship with the Ishin party (a supplementary party allied with the ruling Liberal Democratic and Komei parties) along with the Democratic Party for the People.

Mabuchi Sumio, the CDPJ Diet affairs chief, arranged a press conference in the Diet building on the same day and said, "We caused concern and made the JCP uncomfortable. It was inconsiderate. We apologize to the JCP." CDPJ leader Izumi Kentaro on his own Twitter account on the previous day stated that the CDPJ will neither exclude the JCP nor partner up with the Ishin party."
