The Japanese Communist Party condemns Russia's attack on a nuclear power plant and demands a halt to the military offensive

Russia, in the course of its ongoing aggression against Ukraine, on March 4 bombarded buildings near the reactors at Ukraine's largest nuclear power plant in the Southern city of Zaporizhzhia and some of the buildings were destroyed. The Japanese Communist Party strongly condemns this highly dangerous act.

If the reactors at the plant are damaged by the shelling, it can lead to an international radioactive catastrophe far more serious than the past severe accidents at the Fukushima Daiichi and Chernobyl nuclear power plants. This would amount to a criminal act endangering the survival of the human race. The JCP demands that Russia immediately stop the bombardment.
