JCP delivers \5 million in donations for quake victims to Turkish embassy in Japan

February 23, 2023
Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Representatives Miyamoto Takeshi on February 22 visited the Turkish Embassy in Tokyo and delivered to Ambassador Korkut Gungen five million yen in donations that the JCP had collected to support people affected by the latest massive Turkey-Syria earthquake.

The ambassador said that the massive quake delivered a serious blow to dozens of cities and one-seventh of the population in Turkey, and heartily thanked Miyamoto for the JCP donations.

Referring to the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the 2011 Great East Japan Disaster, Miyamoto said, “Japanese people feel the latest disaster in Turkey as if it happened in Japan,” expressing his heartfelt sympathy to the disaster victims.

Miyamoto told the ambassador that JCP Chair Shii Kazuo, during his visit to Turkey last year for the meeting of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), met with Efkan Ala, deputy chairman of the Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party). He submitted to the ambassador Shii’s letter of condolences addressed to the AKP deputy chair.
