Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Ito Gaku on October 30 visited the Japan Committee for UNICEF in Tokyo to deliver 8,319,935 yen in donations the party received from around Japan to help fund humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

In talks with the JCP lawmaker, Japan Committee for UNICEF Secretary General Endo Tsuyoshi expressed his thanks to the JCP, saying that the donations will be sent to Gaza.

Ito introduced donors’ messages such as these: “I’m overwhelmingly sad to hear that many children in Gaza are being killed,” and “I hope that a ceasefire will be achieved without delay.”

Endo said that under the genocidal situation, UNICEF staff in Gaza are struggling to provide clean water and proper sanitation to children and families. He went on to say that the ongoing fuel shortage in Gaza will likely make it impossible for UNICEF to keep running its project to desalinate seawater and supply drinking water to one million people.
