Kasai joins in cross-party parliamentarians’ petition to Kishida gov’t for efforts to settle N. Korea abduction issue

March 19, 2024
Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Representatives Kasai Akira on March 15 together with other executive members of the cross-party parliamentarians’ league for normalization of Japan-North Korea relations handed to Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister in charge of the abduction issue Hayashi Yoshimasa the league’s resolution calling on Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to visit Pyongyang and increase government efforts to settle issues between the two nations.

Kasai, who serves as vice chair of the cross-party parliamentarians’ league, said, “The only way to resolve the North Korea issues is to hold dialogues. It is necessary to settle North Korea’s nuclear/missile development issue in addition to other issues including North Korea's abduction of Japanese nationals and Japan's past war of aggression in a comprehensive manner based on the 2002 Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration. Most importantly, normalizing bilateral relations will open the path to resolving these issues. It is important to set up a channel of dialogue with North Korea by using every opportunity available.”
