US Osprey makes ‘precautionary’ landing at civil airport on Amami-Oshima Island

April 25, 2025

A tilt-rotor MV-22 Osprey stationed at the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma air base (Okianwa Pref.) on April 24 made a “precautionary” landing at a civil airport on Kagoshima’s Amami-Oshima Island.

The incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m., and an hour and a half later, the MV-22 departed from Amami Airport.

The Defense Ministry Kyushu Defense Bureau explained that according to the U.S. military, the USMC Osprey landed at the airport to prevent an accident as a warning light came on during the flight.
