The Israeli military on July 16 carried out a series of air strikes on central Damascus, the Syrian capital, hitting the area where Syria’s Defense Ministry is located.

On the following day, Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on his X account condemned Israel’s strikes as a lawless act that violates the UN Charter and international law. He in his X post pointed out that Israel’s act will lead only to further inflaming tensions in the Middle East. He strongly demanded that the international community take urgent action to pressure Israel into complying with international law.
