In Gaza, the death toll from Israeli attacks has surpassed 60,000 and the starvation crisis is worsening. Under this situation, Portugal and Germany on July 31 announced, respectively, that they will begin consideration and discussions toward the recognition of the State of Palestine. This move came after a similar announcement made by France, the U.K. and Canada.
On the day, Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on his X account made a post in regard to the recognition of a Palestinian state.
Shii in his post pointed out that in order to stop Israel’s campaign of genocide, the urgent need is to recognize the State of Palestine. He noted that among G7 countries, along with France which made a move toward recognizing Palestine as a state, the U.K. and Canada expressed their intent to do the same.
Shii wrote, “What is the Japanese government waiting for? I strongly demand that Japan embark on a course of recognizing Palestinian statehood.”
