Akahata learned on December 8 that a U.S. soldier assigned to the U.S. Yokota Air Base dropped a parachute onto a children’s center in Fussa City during a parachute landing exercise on November 20.
The Defense Ministry North Kanto Defense Bureau explained that during the airborne training exercise, a paratrooper jettisoned his main parachute and landed on the base using his reserve parachute, but the main parachute fell onto the grounds of a Fussa City-owned children’s center.
That same night, the U.S. military reportedly entered the children’s center without permission to retrieve the main parachute.
According to Fussa City, which encompasses over 40% of the base, no information regarding the incident was provided to the city until December 8.
Just two days prior to this incident, another U.S. soldier parachuted into the central area of Hamura City, northwest of the Yokota AB, damaging the roof of a private home with his pilot parachute.
