Japanese Communist Party Secretariat member Tagawa Minoru, who is also the secretary general of the JCP International Commission, on December 12 met with a representative of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) Japan Relations Office, Tsumura Yasuhiro, in Tokyo to deliver about 620,000 yen in donations which the JCP collected across the country for humanitarian aid to Gaza citizens.

Expressing his thanks to the JCP, Tsumura said that in June, the WFP could reach only 10,000 Gaza citizens with food due to Israel’s blockade, leaving the entire Gaza Strip in a state of famine. However, he added, as the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was concluded in October, the UN organization could deliver food assistance to 1.8 million Gazans and resume the operation of its school meal program.

The WFP Japan Relations Office Director pointed out that the situation surrounding humanitarian aid in Gaza is getting tough, and stressed that even under this situation, it is necessary to continue providing support and helping to advance the peace process in Gaza.

Tagawa in reply said that the JCP will work to realize a just peace for Palestinians.
