Shii: Iranian gov’t should immediately stop violent crackdown on demonstrators

January 16, 2026

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo, on his X account on January 15, condemned the Iranian government’s violent crackdown on antigovernment protests.

Shii called the crackdown “an outrageous act that violates international human rights law” and demanded its immediate cessation.

“At the same time,” he continued, “the U.S. Trump administration is calling for regime change in Iran from outside and making threats of military intervention. This breaches the UN Charter and could further deteriorate the situation.”

He added, “The JCP strongly opposes military intervention by the U.S. Trump administration.”
