Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on his X account commented on talks between the U.S., Denmark, and Greenland in regard to President Trump’s call for acquiring Greenland, stating, “President Trump continues to not rule out the use of military force. This constitutes a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law. President Trump has exposed his naked ambition to expand the U.S. sphere of influence, which is totally unacceptable.”
Furthermore, Shii stated, “It should be noted that President Trump is making a demand even to its supposed allies that tramples on the sovereignty of Denmark and Greenland. The Danish government uses territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders as a shield to voice objections to Trump’ imperial ambitions. It criticizes Trump by saying that a U.S. attack would mean an end of the alliance. This is an important point of consideration. Even for countries allied with the U.S., a compliant and submissive diplomatic approach to the Trump administration is not effective. What is needed is diplomacy that clearly speaks up from the point of upholding international law and protecting each nation’s sovereignty.”
