Unification Church’s ‘TM Report’ calls JCP ‘Satan’

February 5, 2026

The Unification Church (Family Federation for World Peace and Unification) in its internal document, known as the “TM Special Report”, identifies the Japanese Communist Party as a target for overthrow. This highlights the JCP’s longstanding role in exposing the church’s antisocial activities and collusion with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

The document states, “Since the JCP began attacking us in the 1980s with the demonic neologism ‘spiritual sales tactics’, we have been fighting against that party for 40 years” (April 2020 report). The term “spiritual sales tactics” first appeared in the Diet on April 11, 1984. It was during questioning by the then JCP representative, Noma Tomoichi, at a meeting of the Lower House Justice Committee.

Regarding Okinawa gubernatorial elections, the document repeatedly mentions the JCP. It informs the church’s president, Hak Ja Han, that the JCP controls both the former governor, Onaga Takeshi, and the current governor, Tamaki Denny. The two represent the “All Okinawa” coalition which works outside the progressive-conservative boundary. The document also states that for the 2018 gubernatorial election campaign, 50 young “Moonies” were sent from mainland Japan to Okinawa, and that they worked with the LDP to regain control of Okinawa from “Satan”.

A former 2nd-generation believer said in an Akahata interview, “The Unification Church brainwashes members into believing that the JCP is Satan, an enemy that must absolutely be defeated. The expression, battle against Satan, resonates with believers.”

Following the shooting of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, the JCP Dietmembers’ Group formed a task force to reveal the Unification Church’s underhanded political maneuvers. In response, the document informs Hak Ja Han that the JCP is planning “to drive a wedge between the Unification Church and the LDP.”

As the LDP began distancing itself from the church, it reactivated its political organization, the International Federation for Victory over Communism (IFVC) in order to overcome the ongoing difficult situation. The document reports, “The phrase, victory over communism, boosts the morale (of believers),” and adds, “We will boldly confront the JCP.”
