The Supreme Court on January 30 dismissed an appeal filed by a U.S. airman against a five-year prison sentence handed down by a lower court for kidnapping and sexually assaulting an underage girl in Okinawa Prefecture. Consequently, the prison sentence will be finalized.
According to the lower court ruling, the defendant, Brennon Washington, stationed at the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, in December 2023 lured the girl into his car with malicious intent, took her to his home, and raped her, knowing she was a minor under the age of 16.
In December 2024, the Naha District Court sentenced the defendant to five years in prison. In September of the following year, the Fukuoka High Court Naha Branch upheld the district court’s decision and turned down the defendant’s appeal.
