The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on January 13 gave prosecutors the files on two U.S. Marines assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni (Yamaguchi Pref.) on suspicion of trespassing and theft.
According to sources close to the MPD, the two Marines, aged 26 and 20, broke into two restaurants in Tokyo’s Kabukicho nightlife district for the purpose of stealing cash on December 24 last year. Both have admitted to the allegations.
The MPD is investigating the pair, suspecting that they have repeatedly targeted restaurants across Japan in over a dozen thefts, with the total of money stolen exceeding 10 million yen.
