JCP submits to PM Takaichi its request calling for launch of diplomatic negotiations to end Iran War

April 4, 2026
Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko on April 3 submitted to Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Minoru a written request addressed to Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae in regard to efforts to end the Iran War.

JCP Policy Commission Chair Yamazoe Taku took part in the submission.

The JCP in its document demanded that PM Takaichi in collaboration with other countries call on the United States and Iran to launch diplomatic talks for an end of the war. It also requested PM Takaichi to urge the United States to guarantee that it will completely cease the ongoing military campaign against Iran and refrain from further attacks as a prerequisite for initiating the U.S.-Iran talks.

At a press conference after the submission, explaining the reason behind the JCP’s request, Tamura pointed to a global crisis emerging due to the de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, she referred to U.S. President Trump’s April 1 speech on Iran in which he said, “We’re going to hit them extremely hard. We’re going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong.” She said that this has already resulted in a tremendous number of Iranian civilian casualties and extensive infrastructural destruction.

Tamura stressed that Japan, not only as a U.S. ally but also as a nation maintaining friendly ties with Iran, can ask the two countries to sit at the negotiating table.

Tamura said that based on the fact that as shown in the February 28 attack on Iran, the U.S. initiated its war of aggression while holding talks with Iran, it is necessary for the U.S. to promise to halt the attacks and not to conduct further strikes. She said that Iranian ambassador to Japan Peiman Seadat, in a meeting with JCP Central Committee Chair Shii, indicated a possibility that once this promise is confirmed, Iran may be open to engage in negotiations with Washington.

Tamura expressed her determination to continue to urge the government to take action in a concrete, tangible form to achieve an end to the war.
