Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko delivered a speech as a guest at a reception held in Tokyo on April 11 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the New Socialist Party.
Tamura referred to a joint street speech rally held late last year by the female party leaders and secretaries-general of the JCP, the Social Democratic Party, the New Socialist Party, and the House of Councillors group “Okinawa Whirlwind”. She said, “Starting with this rally, our joint cooperation to defend the Constitution has become a beacon of hope for citizens who are concerned about the dangerous nature of the Takaichi government,” adding that pro-Constitution movements continue to spread among concerned citizens under the banner of this cooperation even after the February general election.
The JCP chair also noted that various anti-war as well as peace movements led by young people are spreading around Japan, including rallies surrounding the Diet building calling for “No War” and “Defend the Constitution.” She emphasized that pro-Constitution opposition parties have a responsibility to have these calls influence the opinion and gain the support of the great majority of the populace. She called for “strengthening and expanding respective parties while increasing cooperation of pro-Constitution opposition parties with a wide spectrum of people.”
