Tokyo Pride, an event advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and dignity, took place on June 6 and 7 at Yoyogi Park in Shibuya, Tokyo. On the second day, 10,500 people marched in the Pride Parade through the bustling streets of Shibuya.
Among the lawmakers who took the stage to deliver speeches were Japanese Communist Party Koike Akira, Hatano Kimie, Kira Yoshiko and Yamazoe Taku.
JCP Secretariat Head Koike stated, “For many people, marrying the one they love is a matter of course, but there are people who are suffering because this is not permitted by law. It is the role of politics to alleviate people’s suffering, and it is our job to enact a law that legally recognizes same-sex marriage. I will work hard on this together with you all.”
