Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo made a statement in an academic event focusing on 21st-century Marxism held on June 6 at Xiamen University in China.
Along with Ogata, the event was attended by leading researchers and scholars of Marxism from universities and research institutions in China as well as by scholars from the United States, Vietnam, Australia, Argentina, Germany, and others.
Discussions in the meeting dealt with various themes such as: “Coexistence and interaction between different civilizations in the current global situation are important,” and “The respect for diversity in global civilizations becomes the vital and driving force for world development”.
Ogata, as one of the keynote speakers, delivered a speech titled, “Dialogue and coexistence between different civilizations, the development civilization and the development of the individual”.
Ogata explained the JCP’s view of civilization stated in the Party Program from three angles. The first angle is that civilizations are not destined to come into conflict, but can coexist with mutual respect and understanding. The second is that the foundation for the first angle is the UN Charter and international law. The third angle is the relationship between the development of civilization and the individual’s development in light of Marxism.
He concluded his speech by introducing JCP Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo’s new book, “Disposable Time and Capital (English version)”.
