The Japanese Communist Party has a mutual aid system which provides a “get-well allowance” to JCP members engaging in the delivery of the daily and Sunday Akahata if they are injured while making the delivery. This system also covers Akahata readers and JCP supporters, who assist in delivering Akahata.
Under the system, those who are accidentally injured while delivering Akahata report the accident to their district committee and apply for the payment. This system is funded by party members with monthly contributions of 100 yen or more.
Let’s look at an example of how the system works.
A JCP member living in Hiroshima’s Onomichi City had an accident in October 2025 while delivering Akahata by car and was hospitalized for nearly three weeks. After being discharged from the hospital, the member submitted an application through the district committee to the party’s relevant department and received a get-well allowance of 94,000 yen.
This JCP member, thankful for the allowance system, expressed determination to let other members know of this system.
