A U.S. CV-22 Osprey aircraft assigned to the U.S. Yokota Air Base made an emergency landing at a Ground Self-Defense Force camp in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture. The Ministry of Defense’s local defense bureau on August 12 notified the relevant local governments of this incident.
According to the ministry, the Osprey landed at the camp’s airfield on August 10 after a warning light began flashing during flight. The aircraft remained parked there for approximately 30 hours.
The Tokyo metropolitan government and surrounding municipalities called the emergency landing “regrettable” and requested that the U.S. Forces Japan and the Ministry of Defense implement thorough safety measures.
