Four opposition parties agree to cooperate in the Diet

September 5, 2007
The Diet affairs committee chairs of the four opposition parties, the Japanese Communist, Democratic, Social Democratic, and People’s New parties, met on September 4 and agreed to foster cooperation among the four parties in the Diet on agreed points, including the tasks of thoroughly revealing corruption and putting an end to wasteful use of tax money.

DPJ Diet Affairs Committee Chair Yamaoka Kenji stated, “Although there are differences of opinion among opposition parties, it is natural for us to jointly deal with Diet proceedings while mutually recognizing such differences,” and proposed to regularly hold meetings of the four Diet affairs committee chairs.

JCP Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji stated, “In order to respond to the popular will shown in the recent election, the JCP is prepared to advance cooperation among opposition parties on the points that we can agree on and make efforts to serve the public interest.”
