Koike welcomes CDPJ Edano’s remark on JCP-CDPJ cooperation

September 24, 2020

Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira on September 23 at a press conference in the Diet building welcomed Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan leader Edano Yukio’s remark concerning CDPJ-JCP cooperation.

Edano made the remark at a news conference earlier on the day at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan. Asked about cooperation between the two parties, Edano said that despite different positions concerning the Emperor system and the Japan-U.S. alliance, “the two parties largely agree on what policies should be implemented within the next three, five, or ten years, depending on the current situation in Japan.”

Regarding this remark, Koike said, “I totally agree with him. In recent years, the two parties have worked together on various issues in the Diet and continuously discussed possible common policies, which has made me growingly convinced that the two parties have developed broad consensus on policies. Edano’s remark is very encouraging.”

Koike also quoted Edano as saying that while acknowledging differences, the CDPJ and JCP have consented to make utmost efforts to realize collaboration. He said, “The JCP will exert its utmost efforts to bring about maximum cooperation.”
