Rally held to push Kishida gov’t to tackle rising prices instead of rushing into constitutional revision and military buildup

December 1, 2022
In protest against the Kishida government push for constitutional revision and a huge military buildup while neglecting people’s suffering caused by the ongoing cost-of-living increase crisis, a rally was held on November 30 at Tokyo’s Hibiya Amphitheater with 1,500 people participating.

Along with Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira, parliamentarians of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, the “Reiwa Shinsengumi” party, the Social Democratic Party, and the House of Councilors political group “Okinawa Whirlwind” gave speeches in solidarity.

Koike pointed out that under the Kishida government, it has become evident that the Liberal Democratic Party’s nefarious form of politics has been strongly supported by the Moonies (the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification) formerly known as the Unification Church. He continued to point out that in addition to a series of ministerial resignations, “money-for-politics” scandals involving Kishida Cabinet ministers are being reported in the media nearly every day. He said, “Let us work to put an end to politics tainted by the cult influence and money scandals! Let us work to bring down the Kishida government!”

Koike criticized the Kishida administration’s move to implement a huge military buildup and possession of an enemy base strike capability, and said that in order to foil the government attempt to turn Japan into a war-fighting nation and change the pacifist Constitution, opposition parties should unite and work together with concerned citizens.

After the rally, participants marched in demonstration through the government office district of Kasumigaseki to the Diet building, shouting in chorus, “Let us increase the joint efforts of opposition parties and concerned citizens to stop the moves for constitutional revision and a huge military buildup!”
