4,500 people gather in the May 3 Constitution Day Assembly

May 4, 2010
On May 3, rallies and demonstrations were held throughout the country to mark the 63rd anniversary of the Constitution of Japan, under the slogans: “Defense the Constitution and make full use of the Constitution in the people’s livelihoods!” and “Do not allow revision of the Constitution!”

About 4,500 people attended the May 3 Constitution Rally at Hibiya Public Hall in central Tokyo and adopted the appeal, “We can not accept any military bases for war.” After the rally, the participants marched through the Ginza area chanting “Defend the Constitution.”

This was the tenth Constitution Day rally sponsored by the organizing committee consisting of 8 organizations, including the Japanese Communist Party, Social Democratic Party and various civil groups that are opposed to constitutional revision.

At the rally, JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi, SDP President Fukushima Mizuho, and others made speeches.
