Diet should uncover facts on Ozawa’s money scandal: Shii

April 27, 2012
The Tokyo District Court on April 26 found former Democratic Party of Japan leader Ozawa Ichiro not guilty of his involvement in falsifying political funds reports regarding his political fund managing organization’s land purchase.

Later on the same day, asked by reporters for a comment on the lower court judgment, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo said, “Even though the court recognized Ozawa as not guilty, his political and moral responsibility should not be swept under the rug. We will urge him to appear at the Diet to provide sworn testimony on the charges against him.”

Shii also stressed, “There are many facts yet to be uncovered. For example, how did Ozawa’s political fund managing organization obtain the 400 million yen in funds for land purchase? The Diet should play a role in revealing all information about Ozawa’s money scandal.”

Ozawa was indicted over violation of the Political Fund Control Act based on his alleged involvement in making up of his political fund managing body, Rikuzankai.
Rikuzankai reportedly fabricated its political funds reports by excluding from the reports 400 million yen which was borrowed from Ozawa for its land purchase.
