JCP Yamashita talks with ex-Top Court judge over JCP proposal to establish ‘national coalition government’

September 30, 2015
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Yamashita Yoshiki on September 29 met with former Supreme Court judge Hamada Kunio who had spoken against the war legislation at a Diet public hearing. Yamashita explained to Hamada about the JCP proposal to establish a “national coalition government to repeal the war legislation”.

Hamada said that Japan’s freedom and democracy is under threat and expressed his support for the proposal, adding that it is “a historical step for the JCP”.

Yamashita stressed that the fight to defeat the Abe government and to restore constitutionalism is a just cause. He said that there will be a bigger chance to achieve this if opposition parties decide to make collaborative efforts and the general public are fully made aware of such efforts.

Hamada said that he took part several times in protests against the war legislation held in front of the Diet building and that he was impressed by the fact that many young people and young mothers were joining in the protests. He underscored the need to help develop this recent movement for democracy.

Hamada went on to say that the immediate task following the enactment of the war legislation is to analyze and rebut the Abe government’s argument concerning a hypothetical “security threat” posed by China.
