Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko on April 8 commented on a news report that the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire, and said, “It is a step forward toward improving the situation.”
At a press conference in the Diet building, Tamura said, “In order to achieve a permanent end to the war through diplomatic talks, it is important for Washington to promise not to conduct further strikes.”
Tamura explained that the JCP five days earlier demanded that the Takaichi government request the U.S. to make sure that it will halt its strikes on Iran and hold back on conducting renewed attacks. She said, “Whether the U.S. will make a no-further-attack promise is a major concern in the current situation. The JCP will strongly urge the Takaichi government to call on the U.S. to make such a promise.”
Furthermore, Tamura again pointed out that the Japanese government completely avoids criticizing the U.S.-Israeli war of aggression against Iran as a lawless war violating the UN Charter and international law, which is a serious problem.
Tamura stressed that to encourage more people to voice their opposition to the war on Iran and to overwhelmingly strengthen the international solidarity movement calling for the protection of the UN Charter and international law will serve as the power to realize a permanent end to the war.
Tamura noted that in Japan, there is a growing citizens’ movement that opposes the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran and demands government efforts to stop the war in compliance with Article 9 of the Constitution. She expressed her determination to work hard to expand this movement in solidarity with citizens.
