Japan-ROK, ROK-Japan parliamentarians' unions adopt joint statement

September 16, 2023
The cross-party Japan-ROK and ROK-Japan parliamentarians' unions on September 15 held their 44th general assembly in the Japanese Diet building. Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo (advisor to the Japan-ROK parliamentarians' union), JCP Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji, JCP member of the House of Representatives Kasai Akira, and many more JCP lawmakers attended the assembly.

The two unions adopted a joint statement in the assembly's closing ceremony.

Noting that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the "Japan-ROK Partnership Declaration" which faces up to the past and is oriented to the future, the joint statement calls for a shared recognition that the two governments should pursue common interests in terms of the mutual benefits gained based on the spirit of the declaration.

The statement calls on the two governments to continue sincere dialogues to resolve pending issues. In order to settle the historical issues lying between the two countries, the statement reaffirms their commitment to recover the honor and dignity of persons concerned in a spirit of the mutual benefits based on the Partnership Declaration. The statement also reaffirms that they will work together to eradicate hate speech and hate crime.
